Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
While I am so grateful for the charity I have seen in these past weeks, like many of you I am pained by what I have witnessed in recent days. How unfortunate that while so many of us have recently come together to protect one another, we have more recently seen instances of human abuse and individuals acting with complete disregard for their neighbors.
Unfortunately, in our society the doors of justice and equality are often closed for many. As people of faith, we stand against those who abuse their power or ignore the humanity of others. The door to God’s everlasting life is open to all of us, but we cannot break it down with anger or violence; love and mercy are the key.
Each of us are called to be saints, to be perfect in an imperfect world. And we remember that when we fail, we are to begin again. Let us help each other to begin again our journey in love and mercy to open the gates to a better life today here on Earth, leading to our life everlasting.
I pray that we remember to live in the moments of love and common good and not in fear and selfishness.
I pray that each of one of us in the Diocese of Raleigh strives to recognize God’s mercy for us so that we may always seek to show that mercy to others.
I pray that our actions reflect to others the goodness of God and that together we can give His strength to all those who are suffering and burdened.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:
Si bien estoy tan agradecido por la caridad que he visto en estas últimas semanas, como a muchos de ustedes me duele lo que he presenciado en los últimos días. Qué desafortunado que si bien muchos de nosotros nos hemos reunido recientemente para protegernos unos a otros, hemos visto más recientemente casos de abuso humano e individuos que actúan con total desprecio por sus vecinos.
Desafortunadamente, en nuestra sociedad las puertas de la justicia y la igualdad a menudo están cerradas para muchos. Como personas de fe, nos oponemos a quienes abusan de su poder o ignoran la humanidad de los demás. La puerta a la vida eterna de Dios está abierta para todos nosotros, pero no podemos romperla con ira o violencia; el amor y la misericordia son la clave.
Cada uno de nosotros estamos llamados a ser santos, a ser perfectos en un mundo imperfecto. Y recordamos que cuando fallamos, debemos comenzar de nuevo. Ayudémonos unos a otros para comenzar de nuevo nuestro viaje en el amor y la misericordia para abrir las puertas a una vida mejor hoy aquí en la Tierra, conduciendo a nuestra vida eterna.
Rezo para que recordemos vivir en los momentos de amor y bien común y no en el miedo y el egoísmo.
Ruego que cada uno de nosotros en la Diócesis de Raleigh se esfuerce por reconocer la misericordia de Dios para con nosotros, de modo que siempre podamos tratar de mostrar esa misericordia a los demás.
Ruego que nuestras acciones reflejen a los demás la bondad de Dios y que juntos podamos dar su fuerza a todos aquellos que están sufridos y agobiados.
