‘A home for all’ is live

RALEIGH – Inspired by Laudato Si, a 2015 encyclical by Pope Francis about the environment, a Raleigh group organized “A home for all” art showcase for Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Raleigh.

Working with art teachers at diocesan schools, North Carolina Catholics Caring for our Common Home announced the show in February, collected students’ works through March and prepared to present the show on April 22, which is also Earth Day.

"Students learned that by respecting and loving our world we show respect and love to God,” said Kathryn Quinn, who teaches art at St. Catherine of Siena School in Wake Forest.

At Raleigh’s St. Francis of Assisi Preschool, administrative assistant Shelly Freeman said her group was able to merge art with environmental education.

“[It] allowed children to express their understanding and appreciation of nature through creativity,” she said.
