In anticipation of Earth Day (April 22) and Laudato Si’ Week (May 16-24), the Diocese of Raleigh is sharing resources for interested parishes and parishioners to undertake activities celebrating “Our Common Home.”
This year marks the sixth anniversary of Laudato Si': On Care for Our Common Home, an encyclical appeal from Pope Francis addressed to "every person living on this planet" to have an inclusive dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet.
Pope Francis has called upon the Church and the world to acknowledge the urgency of our environmental challenges and to join him in embarking on a new path. This encyclical is written with both hope and resolve, divided into six chapters, which together provide a thorough analysis of human life and its three intertwined relationships: with God, with our neighbor and with the Earth.
As we approach these anniversaries, the Human Life and Dignity Office will be expanding its resources to encourage more parish-level engagement regarding Care for God’s Creation.
In the meantime, the Cathedral Creation Care Network will hold a reflection and prayer service at The Globe at the NC Museum of Natural Science in Raleigh Saturday, April 24. Everyone is invited to attend. The Cathedral Creation Care Network is part of Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral.
