Bishop Zarama requests support for Catholic Charities food pantries

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Over the last few weeks, we have seen the effects of COVID-19 throughout our diocese, especially on those already facing economic hardships. Many of our neighbors are suffering, displaced, or experiencing fear. As Catholics, it is our responsibility to share the gift of hope to the neediest in our communities, which is the beauty of Catholic Charities. Even during these most challenging times, Catholic Charities continues to carry out its mission of alleviating the effects of poverty and creating hope for the most vulnerable in our society.

Many of our neighbors’ needs have been intensified by lost jobs, school closures, and limited resources. Catholic Charities has recently re-opened its food pantries across the diocese with updated safety processes. Our staff are already facing an increase in demand from families impacted by the economic effects of COVID-19, and your help is needed to meet this new challenge.

It is out of my love for our neighbors, and because of our shared love for our Lord, that I ask you to join me in not just preventing the spread of the virus but also helping to rebuild in the wake of it. I ask you to prayerfully consider making a financial contribution to Catholic Charities food pantries so that they may continue to be a beacon of light to so many of our brothers and sisters during this most uncertain time.

As always, please know of my daily prayers for the health and safety of you and your family, and join me in prayer for those affected by this virus, their family, friends, and the healthcare professionals who care for them.

With my gratitude in Christ,

+ Luis R. Zarama
Bishop of Raleigh
Catholic Charities Board President
