An unseasonably cold morning on Nov. 29 did not prevent a warm celebration for the home school community inside and outside of Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral for the annual Home School Mass, hosted by ARCH – Association of Roman Catholic Homeschoolers of Raleigh.
“We gather to thank God for the blessing of our families and the blessing of learning something new every day,” said Bishop Luis Zarama, who celebrated the Mass together with Monsignor Jeffrey Ingham, pastor of St. Luke’s in Raleigh, and Father John Kane, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua in Southern Pines.
During his homily, Bishop Luis referenced the previous Sunday’s Feast of Christ the King.
“Is Jesus my true king?” Bishop Luis asked. “How do we learn; how do we know that we are doing his will and following him according to his will?
“Each one of us needs to bloom with the special gift the Lord has for each of us,” he continued. “We need to make that journey with ourselves and with the entire Church to discover and use that gift. If we do that, we will discover that Jesus is the King who will lead us to discover that gift. And we must do that by enjoying the best gift -- the gift of our own life that Jesus has given us.”
