Position Summary:

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School is seeking a full-time Social Studies/Theology teacher. This educator is responsible for instilling the values and mission of our parish school into teaching and learning, while engaging students in making meaningful connections across content area. This educator will work collaboratively with colleagues and seek professional growth; cultivate trust and partnerships with families; model a lived faith for others; inspire students to be positive leaders, critical thinkers, and creative problem solvers. The individual that fulfills this position will carry out duties as assigned by the principal, including but not limited to the responsibilities below.

Key responsibilities:

  • Integrate values and attitudes that guide students in evaluating and applying content in the light of Gospel teachings
  • Effectively implement a grade-level appropriate Social Studies curriculum, while purposefully enhancing critical thinking skills and providing learners the opportunity to explore Diocese of Raleigh Social Studies standards and objectives.
  • Demonstrate mastery of subject-area content, create cross-curricular connections, and design rigorous instructional plans that include higher order thinking skills and opportunities for learners to evaluate and apply knowledge to diverse situations.
  • Incorporate the seamless integration of technology that supports the school’s instructional program and goals.
  • Develop and implement hands-on learning experiences using research-based instruction and rigorous assessments to assess multiple levels of content and skills, including the use of student data to inform instruction.
  • Cultivate ongoing communication and positive relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Contribute to a positive Catholic school culture driven by continuous professional and spiritual growth, the striving for academic excellence, and a commitment to collegial collaboration.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Other duties may include lunch and/or recess supervision, carpool duty, and possible club or elective leadership. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Education or Social Studies
  • Hold a current North Carolina Teaching License for Grade 7-12, Social Studies or an equivalent out-of-state license.
  • 2 or more years of Education/Teaching experience is preferred
  • Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks
  • Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training.
