Cardinal Gibbons High School is a private college preparatory school of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh. We embrace the mission of Jesus Christ: to form men and women of faith, service, and leadership in church and community. 

We are seeking applicants for a long-term substitute to teach English 11 classes beginning mid September 2025 and running through the end of December 2025.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for literature, writing, and critical thinking, along with engaging high school students in meaningful discussions and analytical work. This role requires strong classroom management skills, the ability to follow curriculum guidelines, and a commitment to fostering a positive and rigorous learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and standards.
  • Teach key literary works, composition, research, and analytical writing. 
  • Lead class discussions, fostering critical thinking and literary analysis. 
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through assignments, projects, tests, and participation. 
  • Provide constructive feedback on student writing and presentations. 
  • Maintain classroom discipline and encourage a respectful, inclusive learning environment. 
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration regarding student progress. 

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred). 
  • Certification: North Carolina teaching credential preferred but not required.
  • Experience: Prior teaching experience in high school English preferred.  
  • Skills: Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills; ability to engage students in discussions and critical thinking.
  • Comfortable using educational technology tools and platforms.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff to support student learning and school initiatives.

This position reports directly to the Assistant Head of School for Academics.
