Position Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Cardinal Gibbons High School is a member of the Administrative Team and is responsible for the financial health of the institution. This role requires a strategic leader with a deep commitment to the values and mission of a Catholic educational environment. The CFO will oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, financial planning, cash management, and financial reporting. Additionally, the CFO will play a critical role in shaping the long-term financial strategy and sustainability of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Strategy and Planning
    • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the school’s mission and strategic goals.
    • Provide financial forecasts and analysis to support decision-making by the school’s leadership and board of directors.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management:
    • Oversee the preparation and management of the annual budget.
    • Monitor and report on the financial performance, ensuring alignment with the budget.
    • Implement cost-effective measures while maintaining the quality of education and services.
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance:
    • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, reports, and analyses for the board of directors, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and diocesan financial regulations, as well as adherence to accounting standards.
    • Maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with the Diocese of Raleigh. 
  • Cash Management and Investment:
    • Manage the school’s cash flow to optimize financial stability and growth.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify and mitigate financial risks to the institution.
    • Ensure appropriate insurance coverage and risk management strategies are in place.
  • Fundraising and Advancement Support:
    • Collaborate with the development office to support fundraising initiatives and ensure proper accounting and stewardship of donations.
    • Provide financial insights and reporting for grant applications and donor communications.
    • Ensuring compliance with donor restrictions
  • Operational Leadership:
    • Supervise and develop the business office, ensuring high standards of performance and professional growth.
    • Work closely with other administrative departments to ensure cohesive and efficient operations.
  • Strategic Partnership:
    • Act as a strategic partner to the Head of School and administrative team, providing financial insights and contributing to the overall strategic planning process.
    • Engage with the school community, including parents, alumni, and other stakeholders, to promote transparency and trust in financial matters.
  • School: 
    • With the Head of School, be a steward of Gibbons’ workplace culture, proactively seeking to maintain a welcoming and consistent environment for all. 
    • Provide information, empathy, and support when employees have questions or concerns about workplace policies or experiences. 
    • Work with the Financial Aid committee to ensure that tuition assistance monies are distributed equitably and transparently. 

Qualifications:

  • Education and Certification:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required.
    • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration preferred.
    • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation is strongly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of senior financial management experience, preferably in an educational or non-profit organization.
    • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and financial analysis.

  • Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks.
